When I first adopted Basil, I wanted to find special keepsakes to celebrate having him. But as I started looking for custom pet pieces, I kept running into the same frustrating problem.
The process was often slow, uncertain, and full of endless back-and-forths. But the biggest disappointment? Too often, "custom" still meant something based on a generic pure breed template, which doesn't work for a rescued super mutt like Basil. It completely missed the things that made Basil, Basil: his massive ears, his goofy little look, and that exact expression I knew by heart.
This frustration went beyond just design—it was about what the pet industry values. At basil & friends, we believe a pet's worth is never determined by their pedigree, their breed, or how perfectly they fit a standard. They are family. And family isn't generic. Whether they are a purebred show dog or a scruffy street rescue, every animal deserves to be celebrated for exactly who they are. That is why true customization matters.
Five years passed—Basil is now 6 years old—and there was still no better solution in the market. So, basil & friends was born.

That’s why 10% of our net sales from every order goes directly to rescues—supporting meals, medical care, and new beginnings. For our first batch, we are proudly supporting Shenzhen Wholehearted Animal Rescue, the exact shelter where Basil's story started.
