The Story Behind Our Name: A Universe Where Pets Never Grow Old
Having a pet is a deliberate choice to let another species into your heart, knowing fully well that their time with us is limited. They are family, routine, chaos, comfort, and the little lives that make ours more magical.
I have a confession: from the very first day I adopted Basil, I started worrying about the day he wouldn't be here. I know it sounds a bit crazy—Basil would probably look at me and say, "I'm only one year old, why are you being so morbid?"—but that underlying fear of loss is something I think every pet parent secretly shares.
Basil has been my anchor through some of the most turbulent chapters of my life. He is a well-traveled little dog who has moved across cities and borders with me. When I had to navigate the heartbreak of closing a seven-year chapter of my personal life and starting over, he was the quiet comfort at my feet. When I took the terrifying leap to leave the safety of the corporate world to build something from scratch, he was my only coworker.
Because I knew our time was finite, I desperately wanted something to freeze time. I wanted a keepsake just for him, something to hold onto the bond that words can't quite hold. That is why generic, mass-produced products were never enough. And that is how this brand was born.
Why "basil & friends"? And why Lowercase?
People often ask why our brand name is basil & friends, and why we intentionally write it in all lowercase letters.
The lowercase is a deliberate choice. We don't want to shout. We don't want to be a massive, corporate entity dominating the space. We want to be approachable, equal, and quiet. As we always say: Your pet is the hero. We are just the frame. The lowercase letters represent our role as the humble background to your pet's shining personality.
As for the name? It started with Basil, but the "& friends" is about you. Because we only make custom products, every single order we receive has a name attached to it—Bella, Max, Luna, Cooper. To us, you are never just an order number; your pets are Basil's friends. We are building a community, one name at a time.

The Story Behind Our Signature Beige
If you look at our website, our packaging, and our brand identity, you’ll notice a lot of warm, calming beige. This wasn't chosen from a trendy Pantone book. It is the exact color of Basil's fur.
Every time you receive a package from us, you are receiving a little piece of the warmth and comfort that Basil brought into my life when I needed it most.

Ultimately, basil & friends is more than a store. In my mind, it is a wholesome, eternal universe.
